Meet the CNM Chair-Elect

Cindy Moore PhotoCindy Moore, MS, RD, LD, FADA is Chair-Elect for the Clinical Nutrition Management dietetic practice group. In this capacity she is responsible for the 2007 CNM symposium and the CNM-sponsored FNCE session in Philadelphia, PA in the Fall 2007. She will also work closely with the CNM Treasurer and current Chair to prepare next year’s Plan of Work and Budget. Cindy has served on the CNM Executive Committee as Treasurer (2003-2005), Secretary (2000-2002), Development Chairperson (1999-2000) and Area 5 Coordinator (1997-1998). Most cherished are the friendships she has developed with fellow CNM members over the years.

Cindy has been the Director of Nutrition Therapy at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio since 1993. In this capacity she is responsible for the effectiveness of the department’s medical nutrition therapy operations, strategic development, and all financial decisions at this 1160-bed facility with over 1600 physicians on staff. The department supports a dietetic internship program, clinical research and a nutrition registry in addition to extensive ambulatory services offered at eight locations throughout the Northeast Ohio.

Cindy has been an ADA member since 1975 during her undergraduate years at the University of Delaware and throughout her graduate studies at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Since that time she has enjoyed many interesting roles with ADA. She is proud to have served as an ADA Spokesperson for nine years, and is honored to count as friends so many talented individuals from this group. She has also been a Charter Fellow of ADA since 1995.

Prior to becoming department director, Cindy developed the dietetic internship at Cleveland Clinic. Her volunteer work as an Approved Preprofessional Practice (AP4) Reviewer and Site Visitor for the Council on Accreditation of Dietetics Education (CADE) enabled her to develop a strong dietetic internship program that enjoys an excellent reputation and attracts students from throughout the U.S.

Cindy has been active in the Cleveland Dietetic Association (CDA) for many years and was honored with the Ohio Dietetic Association’s highest honor, the President’s Award, in 2003 and the Member Merit Award in 1998. She has served a variety of elected and appointed positions in CDA, with highlights as President and Treasurer.

Five years ago Cindy pursued one of her favorite hobbies and became certified as a group fitness instructor with the American Council on Exercise. She teaches a variety of aerobics, strength training and core strength and flexibility classes at several fitness facilities. Each year she looks forward to conducting power walks at the annual CNM Symposium.

Cindy has a number of professional publications to her credit. She has served on the advisory board of the Cleveland Clinic Men’s Health Advisor since the publication’s inception and on the advisory board of Obesity Management. She has consulted for several corporations and given over 100 professional presentations and over 1000 media interviews. From February 2005 through July 2006 Cindy wrote a weekly review of nutrition and health books for Cleveland’s Plain Dealer newspaper. She is now ready to take on this new challenge as Chair-Elect of CNM and help to implement many of the visions proposed during the strategic planning session which took place in 2005.
