September Spotlight on Malnutrition: Foundation Award Recipients
In conjunction with the Academy’s Spotlight on Malnutrition, the Foundation is proud to announce this year’s Abbott Nutrition Alliance Award winners. This award recognizes up to four Academy members annually working in a hospital setting who have made significant contributions to improve awareness and take action to address malnutrition with an award of $1,400. This year’s winners are: Valarie Chudzinski, MA, RDN, LDN; Anne Coltman, MS, RDN, LDN, CNSC; Kathy Irwin, MS, RD, LDN, CNSC; and Byron Richard, MS, RD, CDE. Academy Quality Initiatives Staff Opening
The Academy is currently recruiting to fill the Manager, Quality Initiatives position on the Quality Management team based in Chicago, IL. The manager is responsible for organizing and managing the Malnutrition Quality Improvement Initiative program priorities and other quality initiatives working closely with the Senior Director, Quality Management and Senior Manager, Quality Improvement. Disaster Relief Fund Application Now Available
The Academy Foundation Disaster Relief Fund was established to support the personal and professional life-rebuilding efforts of nutrition and dietetics professionals and students who have been affected by disasters. This fund provides up to $2,500 through the Life Rebuilding fund for personal rebuilding efforts and up to $500 through the CDR Professional Rebuilding fund for professional and continuing education activities. The application can be found on here and must be received within three months of the disaster to qualify for assistance.

ANDPAC Launches Pathway to Nutrition Policy Goals
You can help build the "Pathway to Nutrition Policy Goals" by supporting ANDPAC and your profession in a new campaign that will run through FNCE®. Members who contribute in advance of FNCE® will have a commemorative brick on the “Pathway to Nutrition Policy Goals.” The bricks, made of recycled cardboard, can be inscribed with the donor’s name, signed in memory or in honor of someone, or can be an inscription of choice limited to space available. The bricks will be part of a larger brick walkway on display at FNCE® this year. Suggested donations are $20 per brick, $35 for two bricks, or $50 for three bricks.

Academy Members Invited to Join Breast-feeding Policy and Advocacy Collaborative - RSVP
The Academy is convening a Breast-feeding Policy and Advocacy Collaborative in order to regularly communicate about current policy and advocacy opportunities in the breast-feeding space. The intent is to broaden the scope of activities for breast-feeding advocacy and to ensure the ideas and expertise of members are considered. The collaborative will hold a monthly one-hour call led by the Policy Initiatives and Advocacy team, beginning on October 2 at 3 p.m. (Eastern Time). The calls are open to all interested members; public policy leaders are encouraged to attend. Please RSVP

Population-Based Nutrition Intervention Terminology
Dietitians/nutritionists in many settings work on projects and initiatives to impact nutrition of a population. New terminology specific to nutrition intervention has been added to the eNCPT and is now available to describe that work. This recent addition to the eNCPT is in line with the Academy’s strategic plan to expand public health and community initiatives.


  • The CDR Nominating Committee is accepting nominations for visionary and dedicated individuals for the 2019 CDR national ballot.  The 2019 Election will run February 1 – 15, 2019
    Submit nominations to nominations@eatright.org. Positions to be filled are:  
  • Three (3) Registered Dietitians—3 year term
  • One (1) CDR Nominating Committee Registered Dietitian Representative—3 year term:
    • Must have CDR experience within the past ten (10) years
